CYTOK Power-to-Gas technology
Our decentralized and emission-free energy supply systems solve the challenge of sustainable energy supply. The Power-to-Gas solutions combine the advantages of innovative technologies and, for the first time, enable the 100% use and storage of self-produced electricity from wind / PV systems at economically attractive conditions.
When the storage is fully charged, our customers secure energy from 3,250 kWh upwards. That is as much electricity as a two-person household in Germany consumes in one year. The storage volume can be flexibly increased and charged and discharged multiple times per year.
You can see what our already installed Power-to-Gas technology at Bernsteinsee in Lower Saxony looks like in the following video:
How exactly does our system work? Explained step by step:
Step 1: The intelligent control
Our control center ensures fully automatic and efficient power distribution from PV & wind power systems, thanks to intelligent energy management. A small battery storage already increases the use of green electricity. Remaining surpluses are stored using the CYTOK Power-to-Gas technology.
Weather forecasts and empirical data optimize the operation, guaranteeing an efficient and safe system operation.
Step 2: Electrolysis
Excess electricity splits water (H2O) in an electrolyzer into hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2). The hydrogen is used directly for the production of synthetic natural gas and the oxygen is stored.
Step 3: Methanation
Here, so-called synthesis of hydrogen and CO2 produces green natural gas (SNG). This process is called methanation and is based on the Sabatier process.
Step 4: Storage
The green natural gas (SNG) is compressed and stored on demand in standard pressure tanks. Due to the large storage capacity of SNG in the MW range, market independence is created.
Step 5: Emission-free use of SNG
When electricity, heat or cooling is needed, the stored gas can be burned in conventional combined heat and power plants or boilers, with one difference:
With our modified oxyfuel process, which uses the oxygen from electrolysis, the combustion of green natural gas (SNG) takes place completely closed and thus emission-free!
Only pure CO2 is produced, which is used again for methanation.
A thoroughly clean solution!
Plug-in container solutions

Innovation and technology
„The value of an idea lies in its use“ (Thomas Edison)
The transformation of energy supply to sustainable sources is an urgent necessity.
At the same time, our economy is based on an established energy infrastructure that has been geared towards affordable fossil fuels over decades and cannot be completely switched overnight.
To fully exploit the potential of pure hydrogen, infrastructure and components must be further developed – a process that takes time. But instead of waiting, we can already use solutions that enable an immediate and effective reduction of emissions.
Therefore, we deploy a technology that makes synthetic natural gas usable emission-free for the first time and at the same time is redundant to existing systems.
Sustainable transformation with innovative technology that combines efficiency, emission freedom, and economic viability.
Instead of waiting for a complete new installation, we rely on an intelligent further development of existing technologies. Therefore, we have innovatively combined and further developed proven and new technologies:
- Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) for the use of CO2 as a raw material
- Innovative, emission-free combustion in a self-developed modified oxyfuel process
- Synthetic natural gas (SNG) and CO2 remain in a closed loop
- Additionally, nitrogen oxides and fine dust are excluded
- Conventional infrastructures and components for natural gas can be used
- Patent granted in Germany, Europe, and China
- Proven innovative: BAFA confirms the innovative strength in 2024 within the funding program „INVEST – Grant for Venture Capital“
Market and target group
The market for sustainable energy production, supply, and storage is growing relentlessly worldwide, making an increasing capacity of energy storage systems necessary. The market in the building sector alone is estimated at around €200 billion (as of 2024).
As coal-fired power plants are shut down and the share of green energy in the overall energy mix continues to rise, new storage systems must be created. This has now been recognized by policymakers and included as requirements for the future in initial legislation.
Storage is not only possible through large centralized plants but must also be approached in a decentralized way. Widespread decentralized systems can store large amounts of local surplus electricity. Maximizing self-consumption is not only sustainable and economical but also relieves the public power grid.
CYTOK is excellently positioned here, as our systems enable 100% self-consumption and can be optimally integrated into the existing natural gas infrastructure. In concrete terms, this means cost-effective use of surplus grid electricity – without expensive retrofitting.
Our priority is therefore on the energy supply of buildings with renewable energies for the following target groups:
- Owners and/or energy providers of residential buildings, housing complexes, and neighborhoods
- Commercial businesses and industrial companies that must transform their production processes to sustainable supply chains
- Energy suppliers, especially contractors, who must also prove their share of renewable energies in the future
- Municipalities that must implement sustainable concepts for their facilities as part of mandatory municipal heat planning
Our focus is on the German and European market. Since demand from other European countries is increasing, we have already launched initial international projects, for example in the Netherlands, but also in cooperation with our Japanese partner GPSS Eng.

About CYTOK GmbH
In May 2023, we — Martin Weiss and Klaus Schirmer along with 5 other Power-to-Gas experts — founded the CYTOK hydrogen pirates in Rostock. Our goal is to establish the CYTOK technology, developed and patented since 2012, both in Germany and internationally.
We secured the patent rights to the technology early on, gaining a significant know-how advantage over other market participants. Thanks to our many years of industry expertise and initial customer contracts, the start in 2023 has been outstanding.
Unlike recent developments in the hydrogen sector, the CYTOK systems are immediately market-ready: This is due to the use of innovative P2G (Power to Gas) technology combined with proven natural gas components and redundancy to existing natural gas infrastructures.
In this environment, besides the reference plant at Bernsteinsee in Lower Saxony, we have already successfully completed new projects with feasibility studies and preliminary planning.
The construction of the previously planned projects will take place at the end of the second quarter 2025. In parallel, new projects will be acquired, the technology further optimized, and scaled by the development of the plug-in container solution. This will increase economic efficiency, further strengthen the competitive advantage, and boost sales figures.
